Celebrate the Holidays in Charlottesville
There are plenty of opportunities to share holiday cheer if you are in the Charlottesville area this winter. From festive displays of lights to photo opportunities with Santa himself, there are a variety of holiday events perfect for the whole family. If you are a fan of history, explore the holiday events at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, for a classic holiday full of traditions that have been a part of the season for generations.
During Jefferson’s time at Monticello, holidays were not as elaborate as celebrations today. But, although the customs of the holidays have changed superficially since Jefferson lived at Monticello, the spirit of the season has remained in tact. Family, food and music were cherished and continue to be as visitors frequent Monticello for contemporary celebrations of the season.
Wreath Workshops at the Thomas Jefferson Visitors Center are perfect for family or friends looking for a festive way to spend a December afternoon. Wreaths have been a holiday decoration for hundreds of years and surely adorned Monticello for generations. This 3-hour workshop provides a pleasant day and a homemade decoration to hang from your own door.
If you are not into DIY holiday crafts, the 4th Annual Monticello Holiday Classic 5K on December 7th may be more your speed. The family-friendly 5K begins and ends on the Monticello property and is a great way to show your holiday spirit and enjoy the outdoors. Children under 12 can also take place in the Deck the Halls Kids Dash.
Stay local after the race on December 7th and partake in an intimate Holiday Evening Tour of Monticello to see how the home may have looked during the holidays in Jefferson’s day. These after hours tours give visitors a special experience of the property, lit up for the holidays.
However you choose to celebrate this year, the Realtors at Frank Hardy, Inc. wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
