Billionaire Thomas Sandell Offering Gianni Versace’s Former Manhattan Townhouse for $60M

The former New York City haunt of Gianni Versace is on the open market. Currently owned by hedge fund guru Thomas Sandell, the lavish townhouse reaches six stories skyward and features a limestone exterior. It is presently priced at $60 million.

Lavish is the word for the interiors, which Versace had designed in an Italian Baroque style. Ornament is the common denominator in the rooms, and the list of exceptional, eye-popping details is seemingly endless. This is not a house for the austere introvert.

The entrance gallery features an inlaid marble floor with a meandros border and ornamental columns — in alternating red and black marble, no less — with a tray ceiling sprouting a crystal chandelier. Parquet floors, marble fireplaces, pyramid skylights, a dome ceiling, and frieze wall panels are among the visuals of the home.

Specialty rooms include a concept billiards room with porthole windows, rattan-panel doors, a black stone floor with an inlaid starfish design, and a red-and-black color scheme. The master bedroom is joined by a large bath with extensive custom millwork and carvings, an inlaid stone floor, and more columns. The kitchen is the only room in the house to show off a utilitarian design style; clean lines, an ethereal white color scheme, and simple fixtures and cabinetry.

Sandell has had the five-bedroom, six-bath Manhattan mansion on and off the market for at least six years, offering it as a rental in 2016 for $100K and then $65K per month. Earlier this year, he listed it for sale with a $70 million ask.

Sandell’s net worth is around $1.3 billion, according to Forbes.More infoFor more information, contact Nikki Field and Amanda Field Jordan of Sotheby’s International Realty
