A seven-bedroom mansion in San Francisco owned by Flickr and Slack co-founder Stewart Butterfield and Away CEO Jen Rubio popped up on the open market this month. The Presidio Heights property appeared with an asking price of $19.8 million. According to public records, the home last changed hands for less than $10 million for it in 2019.
The heavily renovated Victorian triple-decker retains original details in a way that complements the changes effected in the interiors; the revisions are likely the work of the present owners. More striking details include the foyer staircase, a remarkably beautiful installation which features a ground level set of steps that suggests Art Deco design with decorative glass panels inset into the ceiling as a complimentary touch.
Espresso-toned stained oak floors run throughout the common areas, in plank and grain-contrasting herringbone pattern; as ballast for all that darkness, walls and ceilings are treated in a fairly bright shade of white, and the kitchen is expressed as a buoyant, spring-like series of beige, white marble, and natural wood tones.
The home’s family room features an original tin ceiling, a pared-down fireplace design and oversized sets of French doors capped with fanlight windows. The master features another pared-down fireplace, and its upper-level position combines with the lot situation to offer wonderful views of the city from the graceful window bay.
A rooftop deck, second family room and garden level, and guest room with a semi-vaulted ceiling inset with skylights complete a look at this recent addition to the San Francisco open market.
Butterfield’s net worth is around $1.2 billion, per Forbes.More info
